. a letter addressed to president obama contained a suspicious substance. they routinely identify parcels that need secondary testing. yesterday,e oe eor wicker received a letter that was laced with what they believe to be ricin. let's head to washington now and check in with brianna keilar. >> reporter: it's not confirmed at this time that that suspicious substance is ricin, but considering the news, it would very much make you wonder if it is not a suspicious substance. the way the white house gets their mail is similar to the way the members of congress get their mail especially in the wake of september 11. that mail goes to a offsite facility. anything suspicious is to be picked up well outside of the white house before anything would ever come into the white house grounds. so this happened on tuesday we're told, a letter addressed to president obama was received. so they routinely get this kind of mail, they go through screening, scientific testing, and there it was picked up. at this point, the secret service, carol, is working with the capital police and the fbi in this investigati
interesting on sunday morning. obama promised to close guantanamo, and now there are over 40 people, prisoners on hunger strikes, including quite a few of them being forced fed. can you comment on that, mr. murray? guest: yes, the guantanamo bay prison does remain open and there are people reporting and experiencing that this is not a fair system, it is not justified for them to be able to do. president obama made this a big priority of his during the 2008 presidential campaign. congress was unwilling to work with him one way or the other on that, and that is the reason why it still remains open and it is kind of a sore for him as well as capitol hill, washington, and a lot of the legal community. host: rewinding history, the bush museum let you decide. a number of exhibits, including a complete replica of the oval office. at a cost of $250 million. the dedication ceremony will take place on thursday. president obama will join all living former presidents at this event. there is a related piece this morning in the washington post. this is from a professor at the u.s. naval academy in annapolis
obama is being briefed on all of these developments. this is something when you alluded to -- and we discussed about an hour ago -- that there really was a lot of information that was known that was not being revealed. it appears now that some of that information is surfacing through media channels and being widely reported in the united states. it generally is coming from very reliable sources. most of the reporters here covered beach where they are drawing on regular sources, and most of it is -- have covered beats where they are drawing on regular sources, and most of it is wrecked. but what remains unclear, and this is why it is so critical that the second suspect is found, you see police officers going door-to-door to door in a very residential area. they need to understand the motives and they need to understand why these individuals on a who may be of --chnya in origin, who were were in the united states. it leads one to believe that they did have some form of documentation from the u.s. government that would allow one to be able to get a drivers license. but this is something
a half hour, first lady obama and president barack obama will be going to the area. coming up, the action president barack obama took last night to help with the relief efforts in boston. >>> here is more on what is going none san francisco, is that the bomb scare? is it going to affect traffic? >> yes, and i spoke to muni and bart, they are running and getting through. some of those exits are closed. if you want to be safe just go to powell or embarcadero instead but they are running. we are off to a steady and slow start and traffic is moving along well so far coming to the bay bridge toll plaza -- plaza and there are no troubles getting into san francisco. also 580 westbound to caster moore -- to livermore and caster valley, i just heard they are reopening the area, are they going to start reopening market street? that is the latest we just heard coming up. >>> and we have lows running 5 to 10 degrees cooler and all of the observations are coming up coming up and things are a lot quieter windwise. fog might come back into the picture friday and saturday. early next week it is looking w
the election, so obama, president obama hadn't been sworn in yet and there was a meeting in the oval office and a lunch with the five presidents. definitely a rare opportunity to see a lot of history all in one room. >> host: have you ever counted up how many people up in the same room as those five presidents? >> guest: know so is very special. >> host: back to george h.w. and barbara bush. a lot of photos of them in here as well including one of barbara bush with her camera. >> guest: yeah, she was a really good photographer actually. she would photograph me with president h.w. bush and president george w. bush and send me the photos signed by can record time. she was amazing. >> host: here's another photo of mrs. bush, barbara bush. >> guest: yes, this was election evening 2004 very late at night. actually it might have been early in the morning. we had just learned that president bush was ahead mathematically to win the election. so the family decided it was time to celebrate with a conga line. >> host: how often would you alone, just you and the bush family? >> guest: a lot, a lot. esp
that was unlikely. but certainly there is no probability it was going get it all smaller if president obama was elected as he was. after the president's re-election, i think a lot of conservatives and libertarians were demoralized particularly people who thought that romney was going win in some kind of a landslide. were worried obama's re-election meant the country had changed in some fundamental irreversible way. they began to doubt after the 2010 elections had looked pretty good for groups like the tea party and conservative and republicans. they began to doubt that big government could be stopped. so that's one of the reasons why i think having the discussion is important. i think there's no reason for people to give up all hope. i think when you look at the trajectory of american politics in the last few election cycles it's been bald. we have seen a lot of change in a short period of time. you are a young audience. that was going to be ushered by the american's opposition to gay marriage. remember that? how did either of them out. by by 2006 we were hearing a different story. democrat
and that's where he would meet a young man named barack obama in the 70s. he was introduced by obama's grandfather, stanley dunham. i should back up a little bit. he was african-american. he was a republican from the time of lincoln to fdr. remarkably what so far to the left that during world war ii he joined the communist party. he joined communist party u.s.a. a lot of american communists never joined communist party u.s.a. you literally sworn allegiance to the soviet union, and you committed yourself to a communist party u.s.a. caught a soviet american republic. so davis really went to the other side and after that ended up editing -- he was the founding editor-in-chief of the communist party publication of chicago, the chicago star was a down the line pro-soviet pro-stalin publication. did that for two years and then went off to honolulu was a columnist for the record, basically the publication in honolulu. bro from 1849 to 1957. his writings were incredibly anti-american at the time. especially anti-harry truman because turbine was the president opposing stalin. frank marshall d
of all, last night in my analysis, i had no beef with president obama not mentioning the word of terrorism. i said, no, he has to wait until he sees the evidence before he defines it in any way. we know it is terrorism now and president said it's terrorism. i also said he used the word tragedy in a wrong way because it's much more than a tragedy. do you agree with that? >> i agree entirely. obama is not the first to use tragedy in describing events like this. a bus accident is a tragedy and attack is an act of war. when fdr addressed the congress after pearl harbor, he didn't say december 7th, a day that will live in tragedy, it is a day that will live in infamy. it has to do with agency and cause. an accident is a tragedy and it has a cause and has to do with fate, accident, luck. when the agency is human evil that is beyond a tragedy. it's a crime. that is what we're dealing with. i agree it's a little early. it was obvious an attack. to call it terrorism you had to be sure that the motive was a political one. remember what happened in the tucson shooting where a member of c

have thought that gun control would be such a central part of the debate in president obama's second term? picking up on that, how much of what actually gets done is just sort of the circumstances that occur, the events and crises that draw our attention and how much is presidential skill or the political set of facts in terms of who controls the senate and congress. what is really driving our policy? >> it has been a combination of all those things. that's what's interesting. if you look at smart presidents like lyndon baines johnson became masterful manipulators of the political process to pass legislation including civil rights law that anyone thought was possible. and i think no one would have thought it was even possible to discuss gun control legislation and immigration at the same time at the beginning of barack obama's first term. and yet circumstances changed. in the immigration law, what is driving all this is clearly the poll numbers. that's all that is behind this whole gang of 8 legislative effort. so i think a new sort of deal of the cards, if you will. a new seventh ci
are a threat to the world. yet, president obama will not say that. >> when a tragedy like this happens, with public safety at risk and the stakes so high, it's important that we do this right. that's why we have investigations. that's why we relentlessly gather the facts. that's why we have courts. that's why we take care not to rush to judgment. not about the motivations of these individuals, certainly not about entire groups of people. >> bill: but, of course, it's all about motivation and it is about a specific group of people. president obama is wrong, seriously wrong. it's clear the two boston bombers were jihadists. they believed they have a right to kill children to serve their religion. who else does that? what other theology in this world justifies murdering innocent people? the answer is? only radical islam allows terror murder. that's the truth. president obama doesn't want to say the truth. and the reason is politics. as we reported last night, there are muslim nations that help the u.s.a. they provide vital intelligence. their secret police actually kill jihadists. mr. oba

contacted was the recent letters that were sent to senator wicker, as well as president obama. the information that we received from the fbi of the content that those two letters contained, the way that the letters were typewritten to those two individuals, the postmark similarity that we had, it raised suspicion that there could possibly be a connection to the letter that we received in justice court. the next step that we took was a joint effort in investigating what we could about what this substance was that was inside the letter that we had. as you all know, the federal authorities released the information as far as the content that they believed was placed inside the two letters to senator wicker, as well as president obama. their team and other government officials arrived at our facility. we staged them on our north parking lot. there's a portable laboratory that was brought in. they came in and took possession of our letter, which is the justice court letter that was received on april 10th. that particular letter, content and envelope has been analyzed at the laborato
, think about bush-cheney and think about obama administration. fbi under bush-cheney, would they have been -- would they have interrogated him? would they have brought him in and spent more time with tamerlan years ago in 2009 when they had his name on the list? when his name popped up on the list would they have gone after them, or was there pc stuff at work where the obama administration says, look, we are not going to go after him right now. he has been cleared. let's not take a look now and let's not follow him. my concern is the treatment of terror under obama is different than the treatment of terror under bush-cheney. obama doesn't want to call it terror. he wants to call it -- i don't know. >> the fort hood one was classified as workplace violence. i don't know if they would claim a do over on that one. greg, you talked about the fbi on saturday when we had our special show. as we have gone over the past two days, even this morning there was something that said that perhaps one of the airlines misspelled one of these characters' names. tsarnaev is not the easiest to spell. i c
